Popular, beautiful hiking trail near the Hohes Venn-Eifel nature park, North Rhine-Westphalia.
This loop hiking trail leads through the striking red sandstone rocks of the Rur Valley and to Nideggen Castle. The route is located on the edge of the Eifel National Park in the Rurtal nature reserve and the Buntsandstein nature reserve. This route offers wonderful views of the striking red sandstone cliffs and Nideggen Castle, which can be viewed particularly well from the Christinenley vantage point. The Eifelblick Waldkapelle vantage point also offers a beautiful view over Obermaubach. A detour to the castle itself is still worthwhile. The castle, built in the 12th century, was considered impregnable at the time. Today it houses an exciting castle museum. Some passages of this route are quite steep and rocky. This hike is not recommended when it is wet.
