Popular circular hike in the Harz National Park, Lower Saxony.
Note: the first part of the route via the Reitstieg is steep in places and sturdy footwear is required. If you prefer a more relaxed hike, you can also take the Ackerstraße there and back. However, the Reitstieg offers particularly beautiful views, including of the Hanskühnenburg rock.
This beautiful nature hike combines the Reitstieg and the Ackerstraße to form a lovely loop. The starting point is the Stieglitzecke hiking parking lot. Halfway along the route, the Hanskühnenburg is a traditional Harz mountain hut. Back at the starting point, you can take a short detour to the nearby Hammerstein cliff, which can be seen on the horizon from the road. The particularly hard rock is around 340 million years old.
The Hanskühnenburg is also the stamping point for Harzer Wandernadel No. 144.
