Göttingen City Forest at Kehr

This popular route leads through the local recreation area on the Hainberg, the eastern high plateau overlooking the university city of Göttingen. The path starts at the traditional excursion destination Am Kehr and explores the extensive beech forests of the Göttingen City Forest. The course follows a mixture of broad, well-maintained hiking trails, shaded forestry roads, and natural paths. A central highlight is the wildlife enclosure at Kehr, where visitors can observe fallow deer and wild boar at close range. In the ecologically valuable lime-beech forests, black woodpeckers, roe deer, and—in spring—rare early bloomers like spring snowflakes can be brilliantly observed. The route offers gentle inclines and, thanks to its excellent infrastructure, is an ideal spot for families, joggers, and those seeking relaxation.
