At the gates of Hamburg, in the north near Duvenstedt, lies the Wittmoor nature reserve. Wittmoor (white moor) is an upland moor that was previously used for peat extraction. The tour shown here leads mostly over small paths through the moor, partly also over wooden walkways that should be enjoyed with caution when wet. The way back leads over a narrow dam that was previously used to remove peat. There is wild, pristine nature and, depending on the season, fallow deer, cranes and much more can be observed. The tour also leads past a memorial city that commemorates the victims of the Wittmoor concentration camp.
