Selb-Kösseine-Ochsenkopf

This extensive route winds its way through the "horseshoe" of the High Fichtelgebirge and connects the porcelain town of Selb with the region's most striking granite peaks. The journey leads up to the summit of the Kösseine (939 m), which is known for its huge sea of granite blocks and sweeping views as far as the Czech Republic. Historically, the area around Selb is world-famous as the center of the German porcelain industry, home to legendary names such as Rosenthal. Soft forest floors alternate with rocky granite paths. A particular highlight is the ascent to the Ochsenkopf, the second highest peak in the mountain range, where the rock relief of an ox head from the 15th century gives the mountain its name. The terrain is technically uncomplicated, but a long traverse of the ancient geological landscape.
