The route starts at the valley station of the Fellhornbahn at the "Faistenoy" parking lot, which is subject to a charge. Along the Stillach and Rappenalpbach streams, the route first leads to the Schwarze Hütte, then along the Eselweg trail past the Mußkopf to the Rappenseehütte and beyond to the Rappenseekopf (2469m). The ascent to the summit is quite demanding and steep. Good shoes, fitness and surefootedness are required. In Birgsau there is the possibility to have something to eat.
