The Main Cycle Path is an official long-distance cycle path of numerous German tourism organizations and leads through the federal states of Bavaria and Rhineland-Palatinate. The signage consists of a gray and green square labeled "mainradweg".
The Main has two source rivers: the Rote Main rises on the eastern edge of the Franconian Alb near Creußen, the White Main about 52 km away in the Fichtel Mountains. The source rivers unite at Kulmbach and flow past the Franconian Switzerland. With very little gradient it is now deeply cut between the Haßberge and the Steigerwald to Schweinfurt in the basin of the same name. Now the Main describes a triangle to the south in the direction of Kitzingen and Würzburg and crosses the Franconian Gäuland. Via Wertheim and Miltenberg it goes past numerous castles in the Spessart towards the Taunus. Aschaffenburg is on the way and then Frankfurt before the Main reaches the Upper Rhine Plain and flows into the Rhine near Mainz.
