This hike to the summit starts at the hiking parking lot in Oberau, which is located near the Oberau train station.
Through the forest, the route branches off to the left onto the Oberauer Steig (sign Weilheimer Hütte). Initially flat, the route leads to the mountain forest where a longer steep ascent to the east awaits. The route continues to climb steeply and finally reaches the mountain pine terrain of the Frickenkar. The route leads through the cirque and flattens out. The route continues to the saddle between Bischofs and Henneneck and finally crosses the southern flank of the Roßkop to the Weilheimer Hütte. This refuge is the highest hut in this mountain region. From there, the route leads to the summit of the Krottenkopf. The views reward the strenuous ascent.
The tour is long and the climbs steep, so you need to be in good physical condition. Technically, the tour is easy. It is also possible to stop for refreshments at the Weilheimer Hütte.
