Gauting - Starnberg

This bike tour follows the course of the Würm river, connecting the historic town of Gauting with the shores of Lake Starnberg. The route typically starts at Gauting station and leads through the romantic Würm Valley, which was shaped by the last ice age. Along the way, visitors cycle past the historic Reismühle, which legend claims is the birthplace of Charlemagne, and the Fußberg Castle with its extensive park. In the natural floodplain forests and moors, grey herons by the water or rare songbirds in the dense foliage of alders and willows can often be spotted. The path is mostly flat and runs on well-maintained forest and cycle paths, making it ideal for a relaxed family outing. A quick stop at the Villa Rustica, a Roman estate near Leutstetten, offers a fascinating glimpse into the ancient history of the region.
