Exciting, certified premium hiking trail in the Swabian Alb, Baden-Württemberg.
This loop is part of the Grafensteige and leads along seemingly untouched nature. It passes imposing rock formations, bubbling streams, impressive gorges and finally the ruins of Hohenwittlingen Castle.
The Hohenwittlingensteig starts in the district of Willingen. It starts with a leisurely walk through the Wittlingen orchards and shady forests to the Geschlitzter Fels. On a fine day, climbers can be seen on this impressive rock formation. Finally, the ruins of Hohenwittlingen Castle can be visited and the mysterious Schiller cave in the Wolfsschlucht gorge can be explored with the help of a flashlight. Another highlight of the tour is the lush green Wolfsschlucht gorge. Impressive sinter terraces that are created by mineral deposits can be marveled at in the damp gorge, which is also pleasantly cool in summer.
A visit to the Schiller Cave is free of charge and the cave is open between April and November (see "Tips").
The tour starts at the Hohenwittlingen parking lot. There is a bus stop "Wittlingen Rathaus" in the village, so getting there by bus is possible.
