This loopc follows the historic Swabian Black Forest Railway around the forested Welzberg near Calw. From the parking lot, the trail climbs steeply up to the former railroad right-of-way and follows the quiet Feuerwehrgasse toward the Welzberg Tunnel. Dense beech and oak forests provide plenty of shade, even on hot summer days. Along the trail, you’ll pass interesting sandstone formations such as the famous Wackelstein. On narrow connecting paths, you may encounter mountain bikers in some places. After passing the northern tunnel entrance, the trail winds steadily downhill in gentle switchbacks back to the starting point. Sturdy footwear makes walking on uneven forest trails easier.
