Best trails in Reinheimen National Park
Reinheimen National Park is the largest wilderness park in southern Norway, featuring towering mountains, diverse wildlife, and a rich cultural heritage that dates back to the first hunters who explored the area.
The park is particularly known for its wild reindeer population, especially in the northern part of Ottadalen.
Reinheimen National Park boasts a varied landscape, ranging from continental areas with rounded terrain in the east to a more rugged and dramatic environment in the west. Visitors can discover snow-capped mountain peaks, glaciers, deep valleys, and striking rock formations in the high mountains, alongside expansive moorland.
In the southern and eastern regions, the terrain is flatter, characterized by rounded shapes and plains, while the western areas, such as Tafjord and Romsdalsfjella, present steeper landscapes.
The Norwegian Trekking Association (DNT) operates several cabins within and just outside the national park. This, combined with an extensive network of trails, makes the park easily accessible from many directions.
