Best trails in Dovre National Park
Dovrefjell is a stunning high mountain region defined by its wild, untouched beauty. The national park features a rugged, snow-poor landscape with gentle, rounded peaks that reach 1,700 meters, culminating at its highest point, Fokstuhøe, which stands at 1,716 meters.
Most of the park is situated above the tree line, offering a striking arctic environment with traces of permafrost. This unique habitat is home to various alpine plants, including common and rare species. The diverse birdlife adds to the area's richness, while wild reindeer can often be seen roaming in this expansive region.
The national park is little accessible, but there is a clear hiking trail linking Gautseter to Grimsdalshytta. Skiers also use this trail in the winter. People usually visit the area for shorter day trips.
