Best trails in Mount Rinjani National Park
Incorporating mountainous areas, rain forests, and savannahs, Mount Rinjani National park is home to the third tallest volcano in Indonesia. Gunung Rinjani is known for it's challenging treks and gorgeous views. Check out Segara Anak Lake located on the western side of Mount Rinjani. This lake contains sulphurous-smelling water and is in different temperatures ranging from cool to hot. Also in this lake is a newly forming volcano that is active but still growing. During the rice planting season, locals will hold ritual ceremonies by releasing gold artificial fishes to ask for blessings for their crops.
Mount Rinjani National Park is also home to a variety of flora and fauna. Some species include: musang rinjani, barking deer, ebony leaf monkey, pangolin, and the dark-backed imperial pigeon. Visitors can also spot orchids, jelutung, and jambu-jambuan within the park! Other attractions here are: Otakokkoq and Kembang Kuning (which are thermal springs and waterfalls), Sebau and Gunung Baru.

Trail reviews for Mount Rinjani National Park
Mount Rinjani is a masterpiece of nature, mesmerizing at every twist and turn of its trails all the way to the crater rim. But make no mistake—Rinjani is not for the faint-hearted. Its breathtaking vistas come hand in hand with real danger. Only those with proper training, unwavering focus, and strong mental endurance can conquer its paths, where sheer cliffs loom on either side and loose gravel turns every step into a test of balance and courage. Every moment on this trail is a dance with both beauty and peril.
We are lucky to be able to complete the summit before mount Rinjani closed for temporary. It was high season but due to some incidents the track down to Segara lake was closed on 17 July but track to summit still opened. It was 3 days 2 nights hike , instead of descending to the lake we camped at post 4. The hike is difficult and need preparation, not recommended for beginners. Every steps were worth it when we finally reach to summit in 6 hours instead of 3.5hrs. We did many times great walks in NZ but this hike was way too difficult for us. Salute to those porters and guides who made it so easily ascending and descending while helping us to summit safely.
