Event route for marathon runners from 2016 This is the route of the Rennsteiglauf Marathon 2016. Please note the StVo. It is possible that some parts of this route were closed especially for the marathon and are now integrated into normal traffic again. The route is suitable for training marathon runners. It runs from Neuhaus am Rennweg to Schmiedefeld am Rennsteig.

This route follows stage 7 of the Rennsteig, connecting Spechtsbrunn with Brennersgrün on a historically significant section along the Thuringian-Bavarian border. The trail leads through dense spruce forests of the Franconian Forest and passes the Kalte Küche, a historic inn on an old trade route. A special highlight is hiking along the Green Belt, where old boundary stones and relics of the former inner-German border line the path. The six hilltops (or mountains) that give this hike its name are the Bornhügel, the Pappenheimer Berg, the Große Tierberg, the Fellberg, the Kieferle and the Rollkopf mountain.
