#4 - Weinwanderweg Bad Sulza
Bad Sulza, Thuringia, GermanyLength: 4.9 mi • Est. 2 h 24 m
Weinwanderweg‚ maybe translated as‚ wine trail. The route, which has existed for years and can be seen displayed on boards along the trail, uses some of the wine history of the area to greater acquaint you with Bad Sulza and its environs. Park your car by The ringen Weintor and head north. You'll immediately see some small scale vineyards on your left after you cross the train track. Larger scale vineyards become more evident once you get to the end of the tarmac and start to feel that you are on the periphery of the town. There's a lovely viewing point just before Sonnenburg when you are at the highest point of the hike. Alternatively, stop at Sonnenburg for some refreshments. After this major landmark, visible from the Weintor at the start of the route, you'll drop down via a tractor trail into the suburbs of Bad Sulza. After that you are essentially in the centre of town so bimble off the route and check out the sites before returning to the Weintor and the start of the hike via the tranquil and leafy Kurpark.
The Weinwanderweg trail is possible do be done on a bicycle as well. However, be aware that Kurpark, in the centre of Bad Sulza, does have some restricted access for bikes. Just follow the signs. Also, if you are with a stroller, then some of the route is rocky and other parts are on the road. It is all perfectly doable with care and good time though, so don't let this stop you.
