The Harz National Park is located in Lower Saxony and Saxony-Anhalt. It is almost completely covered by spruce and beech forests. It is also home to many different animal species such as lynxes, wild cats and peregrine falcons. The most popular and well-known excursion destination is the Brocken, the highest mountain in northern Germany. Once you have reached the summit, you can enjoy a refreshment up there in the restaurant or simply let the wonderful panorama work its magic on you. Another popular hike for the adventurous is the Harzer Hexensteig, which leads through the park over 150 kilometers and offers a true Bachpacking adventure. The Harz National Park awaits its guests with eight national park centers and visitors' houses. A visit to Brocken, for example, is not complete without a visit to the Brocken House, which is open daily from 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Admission for adults costs € 7 and concessions € 3. Admission to the TorfHaus National Park Visitor Center is free. From April to October it is open daily from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and from November to March Tue to Sun from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. This visitor center is closed on Mondays in the low season.Show more
