The tour starts directly at Winterberg railway station. It is therefore easy to arrive by train or use the car park at the station. The source of the Ruhr lies along the way. From here, the Ruhr makes its way through the Sauerland region for over 200 kilometres before flowing into the Rhine near Duisburg.
There is a tourist information centre with bathrooms and a restaurant at the station where it is possible to stop for refreshments after the tour.
