Mountain Meadow hike Molbecke and Kreuzberg

This hike leads to the summit of the Brocken, the highest peak in the Harz Mountains and northern Germany at 1,141 meters. The path guides visitors through the Harz National Park, where nature is often left to its own devices, forming an impressive wilderness of gnarled spruce trees and high moors. On the treeless summit plateau, a harsh, almost alpine climate prevails, hosting rare plants like the Brocken anemone and Brocken hawkweed, which are found nowhere else in Germany. Quiet hikers might spot peregrine falcons or even a lynx in the deeper forests with a bit of luck. Historically, the mountain is known as "Blocksberg" through legends of witches and Walpurgis Night, as well as its time as a restricted military zone during the Cold War. Since weather on the summit can change very quickly and is significantly cooler than in the valley, a wind- and waterproof jacket and sturdy boots are highly recommended.
