The hike begins downhill on a wide path from the Tegelberg cable car mountain station. The route runs parallel to the European long-distance hiking trail E4. After a while, the wide path changes to the sunny south side of the mountain and leads down the western ridge. Views of Neuschwanstein Castle, built by the fairytale king Ludwig II, open up again and again as you approach step by step. The path soon becomes easier and leads through a beautiful beech forest. Shortly before the Marienbrücke bridge, which crosses the Pöllat Gorge at a dizzying height, the route passes another outstanding viewpoint. The path narrows in many places. Again and again there are places to scramble up rock faces. Many of the hairpin bends are eroded. Sure-footedness and sturdy footwear are therefore a must.
