The hike begins and ends at Königssee, leads up the Grünstein and through Schönau. The summit of the Grünstein in the Berchtesgaden Alps offers fantastic panoramic views of the Watzmann and Königssee. The view from up here is very similar to the view from the summit of the Watzmann, which is 1400 metres higher. At the same time, the hike is easier and requires less stamina. At the beginning, the route leads along a steep track and up to the Grünstein on a well-maintained path.
The start is at the Königssee car park, which is subject to a charge. You can stop for refreshments at the Grünsteinhütte, which is open between Easter and October (see tips).
