Göll Crossing via Steftensteig/Mandlgrat and Brettgabel

This route covers the entire traverse of the Hoher Göll and Hoher Brett, a challenging alpine circular route that starts and ends at the Scharitzkehl car park near Berchtesgaden. The route climbs steeply through the valley via the Senftensteig to the west face of the Hoher Göll and continues over the Mandlgrat to the panoramic summit of the Hoher Göll. From the main summit, the route follows the high-alpine ridge path past the Archenköpfe and over the Brettriedel to the summit of the Hoher Brett, before the steep descent via the Brettgabel takes you back to the starting point. There are no campsites or mountain huts along this technical day hike, which is why overnight stays in tents are not permitted. Via ferrata equipment and a helmet are strongly recommended for the secured sections. There are no water sources at all in this karstified limestone terrain, so you must carry your entire daily supply with you. The starting point, Scharitzkehl, can be reached by regional buses; connections can be checked on the regional transport association’s website at https://www.bgl-bws.de/. No permits are required for this route, but extensive alpine experience is essential.
