Starting in Pfeffingen, the first part of the World Cup route is quite technically demanding. The route then continues with a number of climbs and descents around Albstadt. The route is characterised by an "infinite" number of hairpin bends.

The Albtrauf Trail starts in the centre of Tailfingen, in front of the Volksbank Tailfingen and leads via a short start circuit directly to the sprint special classification at the "Brauereitreppe". This is a relatively long loop around the town of Tailfingen (and others such as Onstmettingen and Pfeffingen). It explores the fields, forests, hills and towns of the area and leads in and out of different environments. It also passes various local mountain peaks, including the Hornau and Kornberg, both of which are almost 900 metres high. Due to the length of the route, it is best tackled by bike.
