This route follows stage 14 of the Albsteig (HW1), connecting Burgfelden with Ratshausen on a challenging and scenic section. The hike initially leads downhill to Laufen before a narrow path winds in switchbacks through a protected forest up to the Hülenbuchwiesen nature reserve. The Schwäbischer Albverein's cross-country trail is marked with a red diamond. It leads from Margarethausen over the Heersberg up towards Schalksburg Castle. There it meets another hiking trail that leads directly to the Schalksburg ruins viewpoint. Here you can enjoy both historical insights and scenic views. There is a barbecue area next to the ruins where you can take a cosy break.

This is a relatively long loop around the town of Tailfingen (and others such as Onstmettingen and Pfeffingen). It explores the fields, forests, hills and towns of the area and leads in and out of different environments. It also passes various local mountain peaks, including the Hornau and Kornberg, both of which are almost 900 metres high. Due to the length of the route, it is best tackled by bike.
