Albsteig (HW1) Stage 14: Burgfelden - Ratshausen

This route follows stage 14 of the Albsteig (HW1), connecting Burgfelden with Ratshausen on a challenging and scenic section. The hike initially leads downhill to Laufen before a narrow path winds in switchbacks through a protected forest up to the Hülenbuchwiesen nature reserve. Special highlights include the Hörnle viewpoint, the steep climb to the Lochenstein with its summit cross, and the spectacular views from the Gespaltener Fels and the Plettenberg, the first peak over 3,280 feet on the Albsteig. Overnight stays are available in hotels such as Landhaus Obere Säge, traditional guesthouses, or vacation rentals in Ratshausen; wild camping is strictly prohibited in the nature park. Potable water is available in the stage towns and in Laufen, but a sufficient supply should be carried for the demanding climbs to the Lochen and Plettenberg.
