Rennsteig-Radwanderweg Etappe 1: Hörschel - Oberhof

Stage 1 of the long-distance cycle path “Rennsteig-Radwanderweg”, Thuringia. This is the first stage of the around 200 km long Rennsteig cycle path, which follows a ridge path that has existed since the Middle Ages and was formerly used as a trade route from Hörschel an der Werra to Blankenstein an der Saale. The bike tour is largely identical to the famous long-distance hiking trail on the Rennsteig, which is why you are mostly on gravel, well-marked paths. The first stage begins in Hörschel and ends in Oberhof. With around 80 km (approx. 10 hours) this route is considered demanding, but also offers a lot of variety. It goes past a world cultural heritage site, through picturesque villages and what is probably the most famous gorge in the Thuringian Forest Nature Park. The start and finish point of this route can be reached by bus and train, and there are places to stay overnight and stop for refreshments.
