Beautiful hike in the Thuringian Forest Nature Park.
At the beginning, the route leads up the not too steep forest paths. The "Schwalbenstein" viewpoint awaits - there is a rock nearby on which Goethe is said to have written part of "Iphigenia"! The route continues on steeper paths to the viewpoint and on beautiful forest paths to the "Schöffenhaus" excursion inn. There is also a nice place to stop for refreshments a little further on - there is a restaurant and a viewing tower on the Hohe Warte.
The destination is right next to Elgersburg railway station, so it is easy to continue the journey by train. There is also a railway station close to the starting point ("Ilmenau Bad").
