Beautiful hike in the footsteps of the gold rush in the Thuringian Forest.
The name gives it away - this hike follows in the footsteps of gold mining here between Schalkau and Großbreitenbach in the Thuringian Forest. The Grümpen and Schwarza rivers are and were particularly rich in gold deposits. Gold panning is still permitted in the Grümpen river today!
Along the way, the unique nature and fantastic views can be enjoyed. The route is mostly on unsurfaced paths and there are quite a few ups and downs here in the mountains. It is best to bring some fitness, sturdy shoes and hiking experience.
The start is at Schalkau railway station, the destination is Goldisthal. There are plenty of places to stop for refreshments along the way.
