Exciting hiking trail in the green heart of Germany, Thuringia.
This hike leads through the Jonathal between Arnstadt and Crawinkel. Characteristic of this narrow valley are rugged shell limestone slopes and karst caves. In addition to the unique flora and fauna, the area is historically well-known, since a so-called "Fuhrer Headquarters" was to be built here from November 1944 to April 1945 and many prisoners and forced laborers lost their lives as a result.
This circular hiking trail, which leads along the remains of the tunnel systems, begins at Böhlersmännchenplatz. Entering is life-threatening and therefore not permitted. However, plaques convey information about the relevant relics. The memorial also commemorates the many dead of that time.
