Unique hike around Himmelmoor, Schleswig-Holstein
This fantastic circular route leads through the Himmelmoor moor near Quickborn in the district of Pinneberg. Himmelmoor was once considered the largest raised bog in Schleswig-Holstein, but as industrial peat extraction was still carried out here until 2018, the bog area shrank year by year. Since then, however, intensive renaturalisation measures have been undertaken. Parts of the area are also gradually being placed under protection so that rare bird and plant species can be observed here again. The path partly runs directly along the route of the Himmelmoor peat railway.
The paths are mostly natural and as they can sometimes be muddy, white trainers should be left at home.
There are refreshment stops in nearby Quickborn.
