Cycling on the Seenland Route A spectacular water world with more than 20 new lakes is emerging between Dresden and Berlin. The Lakeland Route leads once through the young Lusatian Lakeland. Cyclists can experience first hand how the largest man-made water landscape in Europe is growing on the 186-kilometer quality cycle route. Here, where the extraction of lignite once dominated the landscape, a new water paradise is being created by the flooding of earlier open-cast mines. The Seenland Route runs from Großräschener See in the north to Bärwalder See in the south of the Lusatian Lakeland, past a total of 16 lakes. On the way you will experience the change in the landscape from growing lakes with rugged banks to completely flooded lakes. In some places the ephemeral stage between the opencast mine and the lake can still be experienced directly. Other lakes were flooded decades ago and impress with bathing beaches, water sports, marinas and amphitheatres. Landmarks and striking vantage points along the way give cyclists great views of the imposing change in nature. Whether industrial culture, such as the stations of the ENERGIE route, garden cities, landscape art or the customs of the Sorbs - the Lakeland route also awaits you with outstanding attractions away from the lakes. With numerous cyclist-friendly bed & bike accommodations along the route, cyclists can feel in good hands. The signposted tour mainly leads over paved roads and has few inclines. The Seenland Route connects to the Spreeradweg.
