Idyllic loop through the largest open-air inhalatorium in Europe near Kreuznach, Rhineland-Palatinate
Fresh air is guaranteed on this hike: with 6 graduation towers, the Bad Kreuznacher Salinental is the largest open-air inhalatorium in Europe. The tour is varied and relatively easy, but not suitable for families with small children/strollers. Halfway along the Nahe river the water has to be crossed using a toll ferry. The local ferry is the only hand-pulled ferry in southwest Germany! It runs between April and November and connects Bad Münster with the narrow gorge below the Rheingrafenstein. In winter, a detour of around 1.5 kilometers is necessary to get to the other bank of the Nahe.
On the way there are always wonderful views of the Nahe Valley, twice there is a slightly steeper climb. At the Rheingrafenstein castle ruins there are shady paths, but at Rotenfels there is little shade in sunny weather, which is why sun protection is recommended. Otherwise, it is sufficient to start with sturdy shoes, provisions and weather-appropriate clothing to discover the idyllic landscape.
