Rheinsteig Stage 7: Rengsdorf - Sayn

This route follows stage 7 of the Rheinsteig, which begins in Rengsdorf and ends in Sayn. The trail descends through the peaceful forests of the Westerwald back toward the Middle Rhine Valley. Along the way, it passes traces of the Roman Limes ditch, the Wingertsberg forest nature trail, and the Schwanenteich pond. Notable cultural highlights include the bird path and the Neuwieder Zoo, which hosts a large kangaroo herd, before the segment finishes near the Sayn Butterfly Garden. Overnight stays are accommodated in local guesthouses and hotels in Sayn; wild camping is strictly prohibited along this route. Hikers should carry a water filter to safely treat surface water from natural streams between towns.
