Pellenzer Seepfad

On this certified premium hiking trail, which is part of the Rhine-Mosel-Eifel-Land dream trails, you get unique insights into the volcanic past of the Eppelsberg. In addition, there are great views of the Maria Laach monastery over Lake Laach. Highlights along the route: - Ash wall of the Laacher See volcano - Krufter forest lake - ledge - magnificent panoramic views of the Siebengebirge and the Pellenz - Laacher See with a view of the Benedictine Abbey of Maria Laach - Nickenicher Tumulus (Roman tomb) The tour begins at the parking lot at the Roman tumulus in Nickenich. The path first encircles an idyllic valley before a short ascent leads past the impressive ash wall (black wall) that the Laacher See volcano left behind 13,000 years ago. The location also impresses with a spacious view of Nickenich. After a short ascent, it is worth taking a detour to take a break at the Hermann Hut with a great panoramic view. The path then descends slightly and leads to the edge of the open-cast mine on Eppelsberg. After a passage through a mixed forest you come to the resting place at Krufter Waldsee. The climb to the summit begins on moderately rising forest paths, but shortly before the rock it goes up steeply, along an impressive rock niche, to the Teufelskanzel ledge with a fabulous view towards Kruft and Neuwied basin. A comfortable high path leads to the refuge "Am Krufter Ofen", then it goes down in serpentines through a mighty beech forest. The path leads across open fields to Lake Laach and gives a first glimpse of the Maria Laach monastery. Along the nearby shore, it is worth taking a detour to the lake shore to marvel at the so-called Moffetten. Immediately the path turns right and climbs steeply. Comfortable forest paths and the crossing of the L 116 then lead through a mixed forest to the Celtic tree circle. The last section of the route is characterized by recurring magnificent views of the Siebengebirge and the Pellenz. Along the edge of the forest there is an arc around the sports field back to the Roman tomb.
