Moselsteig Stage 2: Palzem - Nittel

This route follows stage 2 of the Moselsteig, connecting the wine village of Palzem with Nittel on a particularly diverse section along the Upper Moselle. The hike begins in Palzem, right on the Luxembourg border, and leads first to the impressive Helfant Cathedral (Helfanter Dom) with its prominent twin towers. The trail traverses flowering meadows and shaded forests, where short, steep climbs are repeatedly rewarded with magnificent views of the Moselle Valley before a historic Stations of the Cross path leads through the vineyards down into the destination of Nittel. Overnight stays are available at the numerous wineries and guesthouses in Palzem or Nittel; wild camping is prohibited. Refreshments can be found in the local restaurants of both towns as well as at rest areas along the route. Transport is ideally provided via the train stations in Palzem and Nittel on the Upper Moselle line, featuring hourly connections toward Trier and Perl; schedules and transit information can be found at https://www.vrt-info.de.
