Kylltal-Radweg Etappe 3: Philippsheim - Trier

Stage 3 of the Kyll Valley Cycle Route: "Through the Bitburger Gutland to the Roman town". This stage from Bitburg-Erdorf leads through the almost untouched landscape of the Bitburger Gutland to the vibrant Roman city of Trier. Between Erdorf and Speicher, the Eifelpark near Gondorf invites you to visit the Bear Gorge or the summer toboggan run. In the pottery village of Speicher, clay is still fired in Germany's largest and oldest wood-fired kiln. Further along, the lush riverside vegetation gives the course of the Kyll from Auw to the Moselle the character of a floodplain landscape. Just before the gates of the Roman city of Trier, the last of the defiant Eifel castles, Ramstein Castle, greets you behind Kordel. All around, the forests of the lower Kyll valley are home to a few more curiosities: The cave in which Countess Genoveva hid, as her husband sentenced her to death after slandering her. Or the Roman mine where the stone blocks for the Porta Nigra were quarried. In Trier-Ehrang, the Kyll Valley cycle path joins the Moselle cycle path and you reach Trier via Pfalzel.
