This extensive section is a main section of the Niers cycle route and connects historic towns in the peaceful Lower Rhine region. The challenge lies in the sheer endurance required for the long distance, which can cover almost 95 kilometers in a single stage and requires a very good level of fitness. The route is technically easy, largely flat and mostly on paved paths, making it ideal for cycling or long hikes. Along the way, the trail offers insights into the Lower Rhine cultural landscape, picturesque renaturalized river sections and historic mills. A special feature is the unusual origin of the Niers: its natural source fell victim to the Garzweiler II open-cast lignite mine and is now fed by mine water.
