Rothaarsteig Stage 8: Wilgersdorf - Dillenburg

This route follows stage 8 of the Rothaarsteig, forming the crowning finale of the long-distance trail from Wilgersdorf to the Oranien town of Dillenburg on a historically rich section. The hike first leads back to the ridge at the Hubertusbuche and passes the "Hauberg" trail, which explains the traditional regional form of forest management. Passing the Lucaseiche natural monument and the idyllic Steinbach forester's lodge, the path gradually descends into the Lahn-Dill-Bergland. After one last panorama at the "Westerwaldblick," the journey ends in the historic old town of Dillenburg at the foot of the William Tower (Wilhelmsturm). Overnight stays are available in guesthouses in Wilgersdorf or in the numerous hotels in Dillenburg; wild camping is prohibited. Refreshments can be found at the Steinbach lodge (seasonal) and throughout downtown Dillenburg. Transport is excellent: Dillenburg's train station offers regional connections toward Siegen, Gießen, and Frankfurt, while Wilgersdorf is accessible by bus; schedules and information can be found at https://www.vsninfo.de (for the Siegen/Wilgersdorf area) and via RMV. The Rothaarsteig is an approximately 154 km (95 miles) long-distance trail, typically hiked in eight stages along the ridge of the Rothaar Mountains.
