Beautiful hiking route through the Wahner Heide near Troisdorf in North Rhine-Westphalia.
Starting from Burg Wissem, this wonderful route leads through the Wahner Heide, part of the Bergische Heideterrasse, and past the Fliegerberg and the Leyenweiher pond. The special feature of the Wahner Heide is the alternation of very dry and very wet biotopes.
The hike follows the hiking trail sign of a stylised sheep's head, but the signposting is not continuous.
There are car parks at the starting point and it is easy to travel by train to Troisdorf station and set off from there. There are also restaurants at Wissem Castle where stopping off for a bite to eat after the hike is possible.
The circular route is worth doing all year round, but it is closed for a few days a year as the German army holds manoeuvres here.
