Entlang dem Rhein zur Burg Friedestrom

Varied hiking excursion in North Rhine-Westphalia. Note: this route includes a paid ferry ride. A very interesting circular route for lovers of castles, castle ruins and historical sites. The start is near the old town of Baumberg, right on the banks of the Rhine. Parallel to the river, it goes past the Rheinblick and the campsite, then across the meadows to the Zons Rhine ferry - Urdenbach pier. Depending on the weather conditions, you can go a little closer to the shore. One should hope, however, that the Rhine always has a high water level, even if crossing it costs some money. On the other side you go to the south gate and get to Friedestrom Castle, an old castle that is still magnificently furnished and can also be booked for overnight stays. There are numerous places to stop for refreshments along the way.
