Eitorf - Hennef

This route follows a section of the Natursteig Sieg and connects the towns of Eitorf and Hennef. The route is characterised by frequent differences in altitude as the trail ascend from the riverbanks to the surrounding mountain ranges. The path leads through dense mixed forests and over open ridges with wide views over the Siegtal valley. The composition alternates between narrow nature trails, forest paths and occasional tarmac sections close to settlements. The region along the Sieg is part of the Bergisches Land and Westerwald, areas with a long tradition of mining and charcoal burning. Many of today's paths follow old trade routes that connected the Rhine Valley with the hinterland. Due to the constant succession of ascents and descents, a good physical condition is required. Sturdy footwear with a good profile is advisable, especially for the steeper forest passages, which can be slippery when wet.
