This hike starts in the south of Hattingen at the Schützenplatz car park, very close to the entrance to the forest.
It is also possible to take the train to Hattingen (Ruhr) Mitte and then the bus to the "Schulenburg" stop.
The route is one of many possible routes through the recreational forest. A relaxed walk under the canopy of leaves can be enjoyed on partly paved and partly unsurfaced forest paths. The Bismarck tower, beautiful ruin (albeit closed) with a view of the city, is passed on the way back.
