Dortmund - Ascheberg - Werne

Challenging cycle route in the Ruhr region. The tour combines the industrial heart of the Ruhr region with the quiet, wide parkland of the Münsterland and connects the towns of Dortmund, Werne and Ascheberg. The challenge of this long-distance tour lies purely in endurance and requires a very good level of fitness for the sustained effort over many kilometers, as the route remains predominantly flat and technically undemanding. Much of the route follows established cycle paths along historic railroad lines and canals, including sections of the Dortmund-Ems Canal, which was essential for the transportation of coal and steel from the Ruhr area over a century ago. Look forward to an easy ride on mostly tarmac and firm gravel paths, perfect for fast touring and conveying the striking contrast between the urban edge of Dortmund and the classic, picturesque Münsterland parkland.
