The Höntrop-Eppendorf mining trail is one of the shortest themed trails in the Ruhr region. It runs as a loop through Wattenscheid, taking in former colliery sites, spoil tips and railroads. Shafts I and II in the south-west on Elchweg and Spelbergs Busch road were the first to be built. Shafts III and IV reached much deeper and were built in the 1860s and 1870s.
