This epic loop through the heart of the Theart of the Teutoburg Forest offers a grand tour through Germany's most legendary forest landscapes. The route gives a holistic overview of the region of the low mountain ranges of North Rhine-Westphalia, passing through dense beech forests and rolling ridges. This is an endurance test of a mixture of firm forest tracks and flowing singletracks that pass historical landmarks. The route is named after the Cherusci, the ancient Germanic tribe led by Arminius, who defeated three Roman legions at the nearby Varus Battle in 9 AD. The route passes the Hermannsdenkmal, a huge copper statue commemorating this victory, and the Externsteine, a striking sandstone formation that has served as a place of worship for thousands of years.
