Töddenweg Stage 1: Osnabrück - Mettingen

First stage of the Töddenweg trade route, North Rhine-Westphalia. The city of Osnabrück is the starting point of this stage and introduces you to the world of the Tödden. The old Hanseatic city was the most important trading hub in the whole of Westphalia. The route starts in the old town and leads out into a diverse landscape. The route crosses the Heger Holz forest area and visits the Rubbenbruchsee lake, whose banks lead to the Leye estate. The small Attersee awaits as the second lake. In the Sloopsteene nature reserve, the trail comes across a stone grave, the oldest megalithic grave in North Rhine-Westphalia. The route continues via Westerkappeln to Mettingen at the end of the stage. As far as Mettingen, the Töddenweg initially runs through a green natural landscape of small streams and fields. In Mettingen, the Tüötten and local history museum is worth a visit. Descendants of the wandering merchants and committed citizens have set up the museum to preserve the heritage and history of the Tödden.
