Nice trip through the Harz forests from Clausthal to Altenau and back. Most of the time the path goes along the Upper Harz water shelf, at aqueducts and smaller reservoirs. As early as the 16th century, mining was practiced in the Harz. With the water from the aqueducts large water wheels were operated, the pumps and means of transport driven underground. Some of the waterways still work today, and the whole construction is well signposted. After Altenau you can also take a shortcut on the "Healthy Climate Path", so you do not have to go all the way back. Beautiful area, few inclines, many blackberries, wild strawberries and blueberries. In the middle of the path, a restaurant with beer garden awaits the weary hiker.
