Start / finish: MoorIZ car park, Am Hohen Kopf 3, 21776 Wanna The short circular route begins and ends at the parking lot of the MoorIZ. It leads varied through the man-made cultural landscape on the high moor. You can tell when you take the first steps, the floor is springy and elastic. The moor pad begins with a piece between the rails of the moor railway and the Ahlenrönne, a main drainage ditch of the northern Ahlenmoor. Here it is shady and pleasantly cool even during the summer heat thanks to the tall trees on the banks of the moat. The next section is in open countryside peppered with interesting stations, a manual peat cut, the peat moss field, stick dam and footbridges at wet gullies. Here you can also see less common bog dwellers, sometimes cranes, bog lizards or fire butterflies, sometimes shimmering dragonflies and juicy mosses. The third section is a sandy path in full sun. The applied sand reveals animal tracks, foxes, badgers, pheasants and deer can often be seen, and with luck a lot more. The last section meanders through a wide windbreak. - moor
