The former Cistercian monastery of Stift Börstel has been in the woods north of Berge for over 750 years and has been ecumenically occupied for almost 400 years. According to old tradition, the monastery is an hour's walk from the nearest village. The tranquility and peace radiated by the early Gothic brick church and medieval monastic buildings on the site surrounds any hiker who pauses at this spiritual site. The imposing 25 meter high and up to 400 year old linden trees in front of the monastery church of St. Marien are natural monuments and the clear course of the stream underlines the natural idyll with its babbling. The adjacent Hahnenmoor nature reserve also offers “pure nature”.
