Harz Witches' Trail: Brocken Bypass

This route follows the Brocken Bypass of the Harzer-Hexen-Stieg, offering a scenic alternative to the summit stage over the Brocken. The path leads away from the crowds on rustic trails through the Harz National Park, along the historic Oderteich reservoir and via plank paths by the Rehberger Graben. Hikers pass the mountain town of St. Andreasberg with the Samson Pit, traverse the idyllic Odertal valley, and reach the tourist hub of Braunlage at the foot of the Wurmberg. After crossing the former inner-German border at the Bremke stream, the route follows the Kalte Bode river to the stage destination in Königshütte. Overnight stays are available in hotels and guesthouses in St. Andreasberg, Braunlage, or Königshütte; wild camping is strictly prohibited in the Harz National Park. Potable water and refreshments are provided by numerous restaurants in the villages along the route.
